SPCA
The SPCA of Westchester was founded in 1883 by Ossining resident Mary Dusenberry after she observed horses being mercilessly whipped and beaten as they trudged up nearby hills to deliver heavy loads of coal. Together with caring friends, she obtained land on which to build the Society's first home and established a fund to be used to prevent cruelty to animals. The SPCA is still located on the same spot, making it one of the oldest landholders in Briarcliff Manor.

Yorktown Athletic Club, Inc. is a self-funding, all volunteer, nonprofit corporation that provides organized youth sports programs for the social enjoyment of its members and our friends in the Yorktown Community. We offer both Recreational and Travel youth sport programs that are age appropriate and are designed for the full participation of team members. The YAC is an active member of the Positive Coaching Alliance, and believes in "Honoring the Game." The YAC stresses that "winning an athletic event" shall always be secondary to our goal, which is to help our children understand and develop true sportsmanship qualities, which include showing respect for both your teammates and opponents and the fun and challenge of competition.

Interests include Guiding Eyes for the Blind, Vacation Camp for the Blind, eye exams and glasses for needy residents, youth scholarships, Eagle Scout/Gold Award support, the Yorktown Leos Club, Westchester Exceptional Children/Pines Bridge School, Support Connection, Americares, the Food Pantry, and area Veterans. |
