In the first half of class, we will deconstruct various poses in order to better grasp the anatomy and dynamics of moving into and through these poses. The second half of class will explore the philosophy, science and practice of meditation as an everyday practice. Starting with the premise that meditation is not just a method to perform but rather a way of being, we will discuss and experience different approaches to reaching stillness of the mind, heart and soul to enable each of us to reach our full potential and learn to negotiate the clouds and storms of our lives when so challenged.

We live in a high stress world where family, work, health and financial issues constantly challenge us. If you find yourself responding to life’s circumstances with stress, anger, irritability or anxiety, you are not alone. The good news is that yoga can help! The ultimate purpose of yoga practice is to gain power and mastery over your mental and emotional responses, so that you can become more peaceful, content and graceful in your life.

Breathing practices (pranayama) to focus and calm your mind.

Meditative/mindfulness techniques (mantra) to interrupt negative, unproductive and repetitive thoughts and replace them with thoughts to calm and inspire you.

Tools for establishing a 10-minute personal at-home practice to de-stress, relax and promote inner peacefulness.
