Margo Smith | Tennis Pro at Club Fit Briarcliff

Margo Smith
Women's League Coordinator

Margo has been a member of Club Fit Briarcliff for over 20 years. It is her home away from home where she looks to unwind with a game of tennis or a spinning class. Her passion for tennis was founded in early adolescence growing up in Westchester, NY when her mother signed her up for a beginner’s tennis clinic to make sure she didn’t turn into a couch potato and she has been hooked ever since.

Margo played singles for her high school and doubles for a year in college and then stepped away from the sport when she worked for a New York City advertising and public relations firm while raising a young family. When her youngest son turned five, she retuned to school to earn her MA in Elementary Special Education and has since been working as a learning specialist and tutor throughout Westchester. During this time, she returned to tennis, starting out slowly with a social game a week, then adding on Club Fit’s singles league play and finally, returning to competitive play through the USTA.

When that wasn’t enough tennis, Margo took on the role of captain for many Club Fit and local teams and has co-administered for the past 3 years the Armonk Connecticut League Team. As much as Margo enjoys playing tennis, she possibly may enjoy the mental aspect of the game more. She finds herself spending hours determining the best pairings for doubles competitions and the best match-ups for singles play. She is looking forward to her new role as Women’s League Coordinator for Club Fit and is hoping the women get as much enjoyment and benefit out of their league play as she did at Club Fit for so many years.

At a young age, Daniel quickly realized the extra edge you can get over your opponents if you train hard. His favorite quote " train hard and play hard. You play how you practice." One of the toughest decisions Daniel had to make was to pick only one sport to focus on and play in college. Since he was heavily recruited and received a small athletic scholarship to Keene State College in New Hampshire, where he played four years of college lacrosse at the Division 3 level. Immediately after college Daniel went back to his true love and devoted all of his attention towards tennis.

Daniel has always had a passion to help others, so he became certified in “10 and Under” tennis as well as adult tennis. He is an active member of the USTA, and plays in local leagues and tournaments. He has a lively, energetic and patient personality which makes him a pleasure and easy to work with. Besides teaching group and private lessons, Daniel runs several social events and is the head stringer at the club.
