Club Fit strives to provide our members and guests with the safest and cleanest facilities possible. In an effort to pool schedules running smoothly, Club Fit Briarcliff’s Aquatics Department has rolled out a new swim liner policy.

What is the new swim liner policy?

Accidents happen! In order to prevent as many fecal related incidents in the pools as possible, all children ages 4 and under are now required to wear 2 Reusable Finis Cloth Liners when using the pools. They are available for purchase at the Service Desk and in the Aquatics Center. Please do not use the pools or club if you or your child are showing any sign of a gastrointestinal illness. We take keeping a safe and clean pool environment very seriously. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

If you have any questions, please contact Ruthie, the Aquatics Director, at (914) 250-2796 or rgarcia@clubfit.com. We are asking all our members to help us by making sure your child is wearing these great Finis!

Here are some benefits of using Finis Reusable Cloth Diapers:

1. They are reusable! Great news for the environment and for your wallet! Go green, use them at home and at other public pools over and over!
2. They are machine washable . . . no hand washing needed. Just throw it in with your laundry and your all set!
3. They are very effective at containing accidents. Unlike disposables which can leak and even fall apart in the water!
4. They are a comfortable material, just like a bathing suit! It’s not like wearing those bulky disposables which will make your child feel good!

Accidents happen, but why the change?

Due to the volume of swimmers in our pools, we have increased likelihood to have fecal related incidents over the course of time. In the past, our policy required children age 3 and under to wear two disposable swim liners, and we found that this policy was not effectively decreasing our incidents. We have found that disposable diapers are not the most effective way to prevent contamination.

Why is it important for us to prevent Accidental Fecal Release (AFRs)?

When we have a fecal related incident in a pool, we have to shut our pools down properly clean and treat the water. We are trying to minimize having to do this to enhance your experience with us!

Where can I pick up Finis Swim Liners for my kids?
Finis Swim Liners are conveniently available for purchase at our service desk for 2 for $24. You can also purchase them online from various vendors!

CLUB FIT MAKES MILLION-DOLLAR INVESTMENT IN TENNIS!

April 17, 2014 by Liz

We are excited to announce the upcoming installation of new, state-of-the-art air-supported domes to house the indoor tennis courts come this September, 2014. This million-dollar investment is expected to accomplish a number of things, including better playing conditions and more efficient energy usage in keeping with the club’s commitment to becoming more “green.”

The new infrastructures, manufactured by Yeadon Domes, a leader in the industry, incorporate new technology that all but eliminates the issues that had begun to surface in the existing bubbles. Read more here. Both are 20-plus years old, considered a normal life expectancy for structures of this kind. “This installation has been on our to-do list, but with the harsh winters of the past few years on top of normal wear and tear, we feel the timing couldn’t be better,” says Bill Beck, President of Club Fit. “It will not only eliminate many of our maintenance issues, it will help to make our members’ playing experience the best it can be, and that’s our priority.”

Rodrigo Schtscherbyna, Director of Tennis at Club Fit Briarcliff, is looking forward to the improved conditions for the club’s members and visiting teams. “We always want to go above and beyond expectations,” he says. “This will be just another part of providing good service to our tennis clientele.” He will be working closely with the maintenance staff during the summer months to minimize disruption, scheduling lessons and Summer Camp sessions earlier in the day and later in the afternoon. Most construction work will be done in the early afternoon, when the courts are traditionally not as busy. The club also intends to increase staffing focused on maintaining the courts during the summer months.

What will be different? For starters, the new bubbles will be insulated, which will make a big difference with heat retention, and make the heating process more efficient. Condensation, a normal part of “life in a bubble,” will be diverted so as not to drip on playing surfaces…or players! New three-paneled doors will replace the old four-paneled structures, with wider openings allowing for ease of entry and exit.
Prep work will involve removal of the old oil tank and heating units, and installation of the new equipment. It will also involve testing of the new equipment so as to avoid problems once the new bubbles are up and running. “We expect to remain on our normal schedule, with outdoor play all summer long and the bubbles open for business in early September, as usual,” says Bill Beck. “Our summer players will have to put up with a bit of commotion this season, but in the end it will be worth the inconvenience. We appreciate their patience, and know they’ll be happy with the end result.”

For 40 years, Club Fit has worked to enhance quality of life and physical well being for members of all ages. In addition to the club’s state-of-the-art facilities and comprehensive programming, Club Fit is also an active member of the local community. Founded in 1973, Club Fit operates clubs in Briarcliff Manor and Jefferson Valley, serving more than 10,000 members and their guests.

Earth Day: A Healthier You and a Healthier World

April 19, 2013 by Liz

This Earth Day we wanted to provide you with some things you can do to make a difference. Here are a few things you can do that will help better your health and fitness as well as the Earth!

1. Do you live near town or commute to a local train station?
Think about riding a bike or walking to your commuter station on days when the weather allows. This will not only provide you with extra cardio, but will cut down on the amount of gas you consume and the emissions that your car is producing. It may seem like a small and insignificant contribution but the fact is, it makes a difference. A nice walk to town can also be a fun activity for the family . . . sort of an adventure! You just have to commit and leave a little extra time for your travels. If none of that works for you, try carpooling.

2. Buy local and fresh produce and goods from your neighborhood farmers markets.
Not only are you buying products that are GMO free, but you are more likely to make smarter decisions on what you eat because there are very few processed foods available at these markets. You’re also supporting a local business and let’s face it, it just feels good!

3. Recycle. Recycle everything you can. Switch to reusable products and bags when possible. Use BPA free plastics.
Sure, it might take an extra few minutes to put a plastic bag in a pile of recycling, take out the bottles and cans and sort paper products, but we can reduce the amount of wast we produce by taking small steps. BPA is a chemical that has been linked to some health concerns ranging from reproductive abnormalities to obesity and insulin resistance. You don’t have to go crazy, but learn which types of plastic are safer for you and your family.

4. Use products that are free of harmful chemicals such as mercury or lead.
Here is a helpful link of some chemicals in common household items to try to avoid. Chemicals in Household Products.

5. Invest in some Earth-friendly workout clothes.
Clothes that are long lasting that you don’t have to replace often are better for your wallet and the earth! Clothes that are made using sustainable methods are even better. Here are some suggestions if you are looking for Green Fitness Gear!

6. Teach your kids about going green and what that means.
Everything starts with education at home! Talk to your kids about conserving energy, recycling, go for a nature walk, make some crafts from recycled goods and ask them what they want to do to help!

7. You can even recycle your old gym sneakers to companies like NIKE. They will be made into materials that are used to build sport courts!

Not too shabby, eh? Give it a try for a healthier you and a healthier world.
