Hiking Club – Southern Fahnstock Park by the Chimney
Sunday, October 2nd, 2022
Southern Fahnstock Park by the Chimney
“Rolling Hills, Mountain Views, & Valleys”
The hike begins along a winding trail that follows a stream. The trail takes you up rolling hills through pine forests, and crosses the stream a few times. The first summit brings you up to a beautiful overlook facing west, where you can see other Hudson Valley peaks such as Beacon Mountain, Bear Mountain and the backside of Breakneck. Many years ago, there was a house on this site, but all that remains now is the stone fireplace chimney.
We will follow the red trail and will take a loop that intersects with the Appalachian Trail. Most of the trail is moderate with a couple of rocky sections that could be slippery if wet, so please wear appropriate hiking boots. Please bring plenty of water. We will have a picnic lunch when we reach the midpoint of the hike on a huge rock formed by the glaciers.
B+-“Moderate with Rolling Hills” Hike Time: 4 hours depending on weather & conditions
Meeting Place: 10am South Highland Road across from the Garrison Fish & Game Club (use for good GPS location)
