Stretch to Strengthen (STR2)
Created by Dan Hogan to incorporate many existing disciplines of health and wellness movement practices including yoga, Pilates, Feldenkrais, MAT work, MELT and physical therapy modalities. The program focuses on healthy breathing techniques to facilitate better body awareness while properly activating optimum motor pathways for muscle recruitment. The class is non-impact, gentle in approach but provides excellent challenges for all levels of fitness to perform better by moving with greater efficiency. Each session is approximately 50 minutes, does not require equipment other than a padded floor mat and a towel. It is generally performed barefoot. It is appropriate for all levels of fitness, ranging from sedentary and deconditioned all the way to the elite athlete.
Dan Hogan – Began his studies in Exercise Physiology at the Human Performance Lab at Ball State University with Dr. David Costill before attending Adelphi University taking additional classes in the master’s program in Exercise Physiology. After graduating, he moved to NYC and became a certified Health Fitness Instructor with both the American College of Sport Medicine and the American Council on Exercise. In 2003 he earned an MS in Ergonomics & Biomechanics from NYU and became the Director of Trainer Education at Chelsea Piers Sports Center. In 2011 he joined the Sports Medicine Research Team (NISMAT) at Lenox Hill Hospital working full-time alongside orthopedic doctors, surgeons and physical therapists conducting research in the field of sports medicine, rehabilitation, athletic performance and most recently recovery from Long Covid and a new program in Exercise Oncology for Northwell Health systems.
