Kennedy (Somers) Rail Trail Hike
Saturday, November 14, 2026 | 9:00 AM–12:00 PM
Join the Club Fit Hiking Club for an easy 3.5-mile hike along the Kennedy (Somers) Rail Trail!
Once part of the former 7.1-mile Mahopac Branch of the New York Central Railroad, which ran from Purdys to Mahopac, the Somers Rail Trail follows a 1.7-mile portion of the former railroad right of way. The trail passes through wetlands, travels under Route 100, and offers views of an arm of the Muscoot Reservoir.
The trail is made up of cinder and dirt with old railroad ties and features mostly flat terrain with minimal elevation gain. We’ll begin at Brick Hill Road and follow the trail toward the edge of the John F. Kennedy High School campus before turning around. There is no parking or public access permitted on the high school campus.
