Children’s 1.5 Mile Scavenger Hunt
Around Teatown Lake

1.5 mile Lake Trail at Teatown Lake Reservation. Each child will be given cards and markers where they will check off photos as they discover them. In a fun way, without any pressure or competition, the children will learn:

▶️about their natural environment
▶️how trails are marked
▶️beaver activity and lodges
▶️trail maintenance
▶️floating walkways
▶️service projects by Eagle Scouts
▶️how Teatown got its name
▶️the joy of hiking in the woods
▶️…and more

Shhh! Surprise! Each child will be given a “Certificate of Hiking” from The Club Fit Hiking Club at the end of the hike.

It’s only a 20 minute drive from JV Club Fit down the Taconic.

Meet at 10:00AM in Teatown’s Main Parking Lot on Spring Valley Rd. (Just use Google Maps “Teatown Lake Reservation” and it will bring you right to the main parking lot.)

Free Parking! Tell the Attendant that you are on a Club Fit Hike.
The hike leader will give you a pass for your car when you arrive
(This is a gift to Club Fit from Teatown thanks to the Swope Family!)
Please! Silence phones and no electronics on the hike.

The suggested age-range is 4 to 7 years old, but you be the judge.
If you have any thoughts or questions, feel free to call the hike leader at any time.

BRING: Water and your child’s (and your) favorite snacks for motivation.

Here are some GUIDELINES FOR PARENTS to know if you are thinking of bringing your child on one of our hikes:
1. We enjoy having children on hikes but they must stay close to you throughout the entire hike. You — not the Hike Leader — are responsible for them.
2. You have to determine by reading the full hike description and/or calling the Hike Leader a few days before the hike to determine if your child has both the interest and the stamina to keep up with the group and to complete the hike.
3. Children need to be wearing hiking boots or sturdy sneakers.
4. Bring extra food, water and your child’s favorite snacks for “motivation.”
5. Not required, but a good idea is to have them carry a small backpack with a few items for a sense of responsibility and to feel part of the group.
6. No electronic devices of any kind on hikes! Parents please keep cellphones on vibrate and put them away for emergency use only.
