Westmoreland Sanctuary
Saturday, November 15th at 9am
he Sanctuary was established in 1957 by Edwin Bechtel, Helen Clay Frick, John Kieran, Frank E. Mason, and Nicholas Shoumatoff as a resource for conservation and natural history education. It was named for Westmoreland County, near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where Helen Clay Frick, philanthropist and daughter of Henry Clay Frick, the industrialist spent her childhood. A range of habitats, well designed trails, nature center, historic museum, and nature programs all make Westmoreland Sanctuary an appealing destination. The trails have signs at intersections and range from wide and smooth, to rocky and narrow. Trails pass wetlands, rock outcroppings, seasonal streams, and four ponds as they climb ridges and cross valleys.
