Club Fit Member Mary Wu Heads to the World Transplant Games
AUGUST 2025
Club Fit Briarcliff is proud to celebrate our member Mary Wu as she prepares to compete in the World Transplant Games in Dresden, Germany, swimming the 50-meter backstroke on August 20th.
Even though Mary has been competing in the USA Transplant games since 2012, this will be Mary’s first time attending and competing in the World Games, and she’s diving in with incredible determination and heart. Training in our Aquatics Center lap pool, Mary has been working alongside swim instructor Chloe to prepare for the longer 50-meter European pool length, double the distance of U.S. pools.
“Endurance and stamina are key,” Mary shares. “The lane is super long compared to what I’m used to, but I’m excited for the challenge.”
This milestone is even more meaningful as it marks the 30-year anniversary of her second kidney transplant. Her donor was a 4-year-old girl, and Mary swims in honor of her and all organ donors.
“It’s all about honoring her, honoring both of my organ donors, and all organ donors and their families,” Mary says. “Because if it wasn’t for them, we wouldn’t even be alive to compete and enjoy life. It’s all a celebration of life.”
Her swim coach Chloe adds, “She’s been such a pleasure to work with and coach. Her story really inspired me. It’s been amazing to see her resilience and strong work ethic.”
We’re incredibly proud of Mary and inspired by her journey. Join us in cheering her on as she represents the spirit of strength, gratitude, and determination on August 20th at the World Transplant Games.
